Ok… finally got rid of my Treo 680 (sold it to a nice gentlemen through the internet) and got myself a Valentine Red Samsung SGH-i780!
It is working great so far, has not hung on me yet! It pairs very well with my Motorola S9 bluetooth headset and also my Garmin 10x GPS receiver with the Garmin Mobile XT software (map provided by www.malsingmaps.com). ActiveSync is great although the bundled NavFone PPC software is of very low resoution and quality, therefore have not tried it out yet.
The built in WiFi works well for surfing, MSN, Skype (have yet to try VOIP yet), RSS, Google Maps, internet radio etc….
I am using Pocket Tunes for WM, so that I can use my AAC encoded songs… its much better than the built in Windows Mobile Media Player.
The usual problem with WM6 OS is of cos closing applications… You have to close them using task manager as clicking on the x box on the top right corner will just minimise it.
The unit also tends to log onto GPRS/3G/3.5G whenever you launch a browser or application that requires connection to the internet, even when the WiFi has been connected. So I have resorted to using a program called NoGPRS to disable data connection until I manually activate it.
One thing that I definitely miss about my Treo is the threaded SMS function… WM6.1 is suppose to have it…! I hope I can upgrade soon!
So far so good… Still experimenting with different settings and software to optimise it for my use.
