962288 Shanghai Call CenterI was watching Channel News Asia the other night and they were featuring this service in Shanghai China.

It’s a free, 24 hours service, where they have English, French, Japanese and other languages Customer Service officers who answer your call, and help.. with almost anything!

In the TV program, the English speaking guy, didn’t know where the nearest post office was, so he called to ask. The SCC staff asked where he’s at and directed him to the nearest one.

When he got there, he tried to send a parcel back home, but the guy at the post office doesn’t understand English, so he called SCC again and the lady on the line helped translate his instructions to the duty staff.

This is a really useful service, and for free! You probably only pay for the airtime on your mobile.

Apparently, they can help with information on the latest happenings, operating hours of places/trains, help you get a taxi, even book tickets!

A simple use of the mobile phone technology can help so many people, especially those who don’t speak the native language, in this case Mandarin. All thanks to the government who seems to be the one footing the bill.

So next time you are in Shanghai.. try 962288 out! :)
